tilecareStone care and maintenance must be done to ensure that the tile products supplied live up to the expectations of its suppliers. The following instructions will allow you to ensure you receive the maximum life from tile supplied from DEA Suppliers. Marble surfaces are very easy to maintain and with simple care, will retain their lustre and beauty for many years.

Sealing Tile

All natural or cultured stone tile purchased from DEA Suppliers should be sealed either before or after installation has occurred. We highly recommend that all tiles be protected with construction paper or another suitable material to prevent any damage until construction is complete and/or sealing procedures are implemented.

A good commercial penetrating stone sealer, such as KleerSeal or Anti-Drop, should be applied just prior to or immediately following installation to help prevent staining. Ensure sealer is placed into all joints of the tile. The sealer should then be applied every year after to maintain an optimum level of stain prevention.

Regular Maintenance

We strongly recommend regular sweeping, mopping, and washing with a detergent that is completely neutral to remove all surface soil, debris, sand, and grit. Aggressive and acidic cleaning products must be absolutely avoided for marble based products, whether natural or engineered.

Recommended Cleaning Methods

Option 1 – Dry Maintenance Method (preferred):

Spray clean, using a rotary buffing machine with appropriate pad and spray clean/burnishing solution such as “TASKI Ultraspray” or equivalent.

Option 2 – Wet Maintenance Method:

Use neutral pH (7-8.5) cleaner such as TASKI R50 or equivalent. When using automatic scrubber or disc machine, use scrubbing pad. When using a mop and bucket, change solution regularly. Do not saturate the floor and try to use as little water as possible.

Removing Difficult Spills or Stains

For stubborn or dried spills, use a nonabrasive cleaning pad such as a white 3M Scotch-Brite® scrub pad combined with a small amount of mild soap or specialized stone cleaner.

Chemicals To Avoid

Avoid exposing any marble surface to chemicals and solvents, especially paint removers or furniture strippers containing trichlorethane or methylene chloride. Keep nail polish remover, bluing, permanent markers or inks, bleach or cleansers that contain bleach, and oil soaps away from tile.

While casual exposure to alkaline materials will not damage the tile, highly alkaline (high-pH) cleansers are not recommended when cleaning. If any of the substances listed above come into contact with the tile, rinse the exposed surface immediately and thoroughly with water.
